Celebrating Geography Awareness Week 2025
As we enter the New Year, we wanted to highlight one of our biggest events of 2025. The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences (DPES) continued the former Geography Department’s annual tradition of celebrating Geography Awareness Week (GAW). Recognized annually in the third week of November, Geography Awareness Week is a national effort to increase geographic awareness and showcase geographical applications in everyday life. Through the Sudexho Fund for Environmental Lectures, DPES hosted 5 events in the spirit of the 2025 Theme: “Making Spaces of Possibility.”
DAY 1: STUDENT SHOWCASE
Students from the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences (Brett Boone, Chloe DelSignore, Jason Haley, and Kathryn Logsdon) gave presentations on their experiences in and applications of Geography, including student internships and projects.
DAY 2: JOURNEYS THROUGH SPACE AND TIME II with DR. RAMPSOTT
Dr. Matt Ramspott, professor of Geography, revisits and expands on his journeys exploring the American Southwest, including the Grand Canyon, Joshua Tree National Park, and Great Sand Dunes National Park.
DAY 3: MAP-A-THON with GAMMA THETA UPSILON
